Case Involving Former Smithville Mayor Continued To September

A theft case involving Smithville’s former mayor and his son will continue in September.

Criminal Court Judge Wesley Bray made the decision Monday in the case involving Jimmy Poss and his son, Anthony.

A trial had initially been scheduled for last month before being postponed.

The 73-year-old former mayor faces charges of official misconduct and theft after hiring his son to work for the City of Smithville without permission from the Board of Aldermen. Anthony Poss also faces one count of theft in the case.

The next court date will take place at the DeKalb County Courthouse Monday, Sept. 30.
