Construction continues on the Overton County services building as crews plan on pouring basement walls Thursday.
Overton County Executive Ben Danner said the project is approximately two weeks behind schedule due to weather.
“We’ve had a lot of rain. Seems like as soon as we started digging the basement it started raining,” Danner said. “This week they say they’re going to pour the walls for the basement and they’re already laying block walls inside of the basement for some of the support walls. Hopefully in the next week or two people will start seeing it, because once we get the basement done… everyone will start seeing progress and the building coming up out of the ground.”
Danner said the chance for rain Tuesday and Wednesday shouldn’t be a concern once crews begin pouring the basement walls.
“If they get the forms done, it won’t matter if it rains or not. They can still pour if it’s inside the forms for the walls,” Danner said. “When they get that done they can start putting the framing up and put the first floor on and go from there. That’s when everybody will start seeing some progress there as it starts going towards the sky.”
Danner said crews should be able to make up for lost time once the framework for the new building is installed.
Overton County officials broke-ground on the new Millard V. Oakley Services Building in May. The $2 million building is expected to be completed in 2020 with W&O Construction leading the project.
