Overton Friends Organize Back-To-School Shop Event

A group of Overton County friends is seeking clothing donations for a Back-to-School Shopping event.

Organizer Anita Ledbetter said the group plans to host a free shopping weekend for students in need.

“It actually just came from talking to a group of friends about how many clothes our kids outgrow really fast and that we have leftover,” Ledbetter said. “And kids that don’t have clothes and don’t get to go shopping for back to school clothes. So it just kind of came out of a discussion from a group of friends.”

Ledbetter said the group still seeks donations in kid sizes 4 to 5 and 10 to 12. Ledbetter said the event aims to give children confidence in the coming school year.

“But there is not really much out there for clothing and clothing is so expensive. So we thought if we take our good used clothing and donate it and other kids can come and use it,” Ledbetter said. “You know that is just going to help the parents not have to go out and spend money on clothing that they can spend on other things.”

Ledbetter said the event will serve students in Pre-K to 12th grade. Ledbetter said she asks that the students are present at the shopping event.

“We do want this event to be that kids can come in and find clothing that they are proud to wear to school,” Ledbetter said. “And if I wouldn’t send my child to school in it, then I wouldn’t put it in the donation pile, because we want it to be good, used, clean clothing.”

The Back-To-School Shopping will take place on July 26th and 27th.  Individuals can contact Anita Ledbetter at 931-319-5672 to donate or set up a shopping time.
