Algood Saves $72K on Main Street Paving Project

The City of Algood saved over $70,000 on the Main Street paving project.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the savings open up more opportunities for the city.

“So we are actually going to save that $72,000 out of our street aid that we can use towards something else,” Morrison said. “So, the actual paving project for the main street, the construction portion cost us $309,586.54.”

Morrison said the original bid came close to some $400,000.

“There were some changes in quantities that were originally bid out that we thought would be needed for the project,” Morrison said. “Some binder and different grades of asphalt that were lowered and due to lowering the cost of those, the hot mix binder went down.”

The city council will have to approve the change before the city can re-appropriate the excess money.

“It’s just a change order voting that they have seen the net change and contract price and it was lowered,” Morrison said. “We have already paid for the project since it came in under bid. And this is just a change order making it official with the engineer.”

The council will consider the change order during the regular meeting Tuesday.
