Perdue Foods has donated $20,000 to the town of Monterey to construct a biking and walking trail at Meadow Creek Park.
Director of Operations Jeffery Beckman said the funds are being donated through the Arthur and Franklin Perdue Foundation.
“We are proud citizens of Monterey and we are so excited to do this,” Beckman said. “This is a project we’ve believed in from the get-go [which] very much supports our initiatives to be a community citizens here in Monterey and our values in being great environmental stewards. We think that green space like this is vital to the health of a community and we’re just so proud to be part of it.”
Beckman said the project allows the company to give back to the people of Monterey.
“Perdue’s been a part of this community since 1998, and our facility’s been here since 1984,” Beckman said. “Most of our associates come from 10 miles from where we’re at, so it’s very important to us as a company, it’s vital for our associates, and we just feel so intertwined with what this project is about.”
Perdue presented Monterey officials with a check Wednesday at the park.
The paths will stretch around the 90-acre lake at Meadow Creek Park. Funding will also be used to install a new kiosk and more parking near the dam.
