Crossville may consider applying for a $50,000 Three Star Grant next week.
Mayor James Mayberry said the economic development funding would accomplish one of three goals for the Joint Economic Development Board (JECBD).
“Well, one of the main things they want to talk about is workforce development and we have read all of the proposals that they have, the goals they have to achieve on this,” Mayberry said. “One is to improve the quality of life for all community residents, induce economic and community development, to attract new business and industry.”
Mayberry said the JECBD would take responsibility for spending the funds.
“That’s become quite a bit more complicated than it has been in the past. We are working on studying the plans the JECDB has come together to accomplish,” Mayberry said. “The request is that the funding comes through the city.”
The Department of Economic & Community Development has designated Crossville as a Three Star community. The designation allows the city to apply for the two-year-grant.
The Crossville City Council will consider filing the grant application at the July 9th meeting.
