Crossville To Begin Negotiating Contract for FBO

The City of Crossville will begin negotiating a new fixed base operator contract for the Crossville Memorial Airport.

City Manager Greg Wood said a group of committee members narrowed proposals to Azure LLC. and Tennessee Aviation.

“But Colonel [Ben] Welch pointed out that Azure has FFA certifications that are not held by Tennessee Aviation, and they subcontract some of these things,” Wood said. “And he felt that the level of skill and expertise that was going to be brought to the table by Azure would be superior to all the other ones.”

Wood said Azure LLC. operates Smyrna Airport and Cleveland Regional Airport.

“We had some good applications and we had some local too,” Wood said. “But they just did not bring the resources to the table that these other two did and what we thought would make a successful FBO.”

Wood said the contract with Azure would contain mechanical support, marketing, and flight training.

“Azure has in their proposals said that they would work with Roane State and possibly TCAT to work on a two-year aviation program,” Wood said. “And also we will talk about some aircraft maintenance as a possibility.”

Wood said Azure also has a contract with mechanic Greg Livingston, who previously worked with the airport.

The search for a fixed base operator came after Crossville bought out the former airport manager in February.
