Non-Profits Request Nearly $88,000 From Putnam County

The Putnam County Non-Profit Committee has recommended giving $72,800 to 15 organizations next fiscal year.

Budget Committee Chairman Ben Rodgers said his committee will consider approving the recommendation next week.

“It’s still a recommendation to the full commission and that’s why I encourage you all to look at these and study them,” Rodgers said. “There’s support behind what each one of them do and why they are asking for money. By law, they’re supposed to send in financials to us so we know where they stand financially. Used to, they didn’t have to do that.”

Rodgers said the budget committee members will have a chance to make changes to the recommendation during next week’s meeting.

County Mayor Randy Porter said the Non-Profit Committee began meeting earlier this year to begin hearing specific requests from each organization. The county commission voted last year to create the non-profit study committee.

“You asked for this subcommittee to look at these an to do this,” Porter said. “They spent a lot of time doing this and I just hope that you would go with their recommendation.”

A total of 17 organizations requested approximately $87,725 from the county. The committee’s recommended funding amounts to $15,500 more than the county appropriated to non-profits last year.
