Planning Commissioners Agree On Road Improvements For Development

A developer can move forward with building 10 homes near Bee Rock after agreeing to widen a road that leads to the property.

The Putnam County Regional Planning Commission approved last week the preliminary plat for the 76 acres on San Hall Road.

Planning Commissioners have approved a preliminary plat for 76-acres on San Hall Road in eastern Putnam County. Fred Stout is planning to build at least 10 homes on the property

“I guess the question is what’s acceptable as far as the width of the road?” Rinks asked. “Your new road is going to be 20-feet wide. I guess I was looking for it all to be 20-foot wide from back to the stop sign, but that’s up to you guys (planning commission). From the stop sign out to Highway 70 is 16-feet at its widest now.”

Developer Fred Stout has agreed to work with Road Supervisor Randy Jones to widen the existing road to 16-feet. He said 20-feet couldn’t be done and noted that other nearby roads are anywhere between 12 and 16-feet.

Planning Commissioner Dale Moss said he agreed with Stout’s 16-foot proposal.

“How can you require this man to do 20-feet when you don’t have but 12 to 14 feet going to it?” Moss asked.

Planners unanimously approved a minimum of 16 feet for the width of the existing road. New roads within Stout’s development will be required to be 20 feet.
