Algood City Council will hold a public hearing for the final reading of the sewer and water tap rate increase Tuesday.
The increase comes after a review of the city’s utilities. Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said Algood’s utilities currently operates at a deficit.
“This is again what was explained as the expense that the city is actually going into almost the red,” Fowler said. “We are losing money on these that we put in at the present rates. And we just feel like it would be, or I feel like it would be better.”
The water and sewer tap rate ordinance sets an average increase of approximately $360.
Fowler said if Algood does not operate in the black, the State will adjust rates for the city.
The public hearing will take place during the regular meeting, January 8th at 6 PM.
