Tennessee Blood Assurance wishes to combat blood shortages by recruiting more donors for the winter months.
According to Blood Assurance, donors decrease every year starting at the week of Thanksgiving through January.
Blood usage actually increases during those months, which lead to more shortages.
Donating blood takes approximately 30 minutes.
In order to give blood, donors must at least be 18 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in good health. Blood assurance asks that all donors drink plenty of fluids and eat an iron-packed meal beforehand.
All donors that participate in November will receive a long-sleeve fall themed shirt. Blood Assurance will place all donors 18 or older into a drawing for an Apple Watch. In December, all donors will receive a fleece blanket. Those 18 and older will be put into a drawing for a 50″ smart TV.
