Weather Could Delay Main Street Paving In Algood

The weather may delay an Algood paving project.

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said the city signed contracts last week to pave Main Street from Thompson Lane to Burton Branch Road.

“Asphalt plants usually shut down in October or early November, so it may depend on if the contractor can get the products that we need and if the temperature stays warm enough so that we can actually do the paving,” Chapman-Fowler said.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the city will look to conduct the paving during the spring.

“We were shooting to have it done before Christmas, but a lot of that will be weather dependent now,” Chapman-Fowler said.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said he’s waiting to hear back from Rogers Group about setting a pre-construction date for the project.

The city awarded the $430,000 paving bid in August. The project is budgeted for fiscal year 2018-2019.
