Fentress County Commission intends to bring in business by selling the old Tinch School building.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the IOI building, formerly known as the old Tinch School, has the potential for a new business.
“There was formerly a school building years ago. The board of education had it and they placed it in the hands of the county commission and the Fentress County government,” Johnson said. “The IOI building was suitable for maybe a business. And that is what the [Industrial Development] board is. They try to recruit and find businesses to come into the county. They have decided to put this building up for sale at this time.”
Fentress County will auction the former Tinch School building later in the month.
The IOI building is located at 3190 Gatewood Ford Road in Jamestown.
Johnson said the commission will consider a number of bills regarding the Industrial Development Board during the next commission meeting.
“The ID board here in Fentress County, they are a separate entity of course. They control their own board and they have a gentleman that actually works for them,” Johnson said. “And what it is, we are talking about some bills and that type of thing.”
The Fentress County Commission will consider appointments and budget request for the Industrial Development Board during the meeting.
The commission will also consider including the cost of maintenance for the IOI building in the total funds divided between the Industrial Development Board and Fentress County when the building sells.
Johnson said selling the IOI building is one part of the business recruitment movement in Fentress County.
“Myself and my office are extremely busy trying to recruit any type of business that would like to come to Fentress County,” Johnson said. “And we have things kind of in the wind right now that we are working on. But we definitely would greet anyone that wanted to bring a business to Fentress County.”
The Fentress County Board of Commissions will meet Monday evening.
