Monterey to Consider Rail Trail Extension Bids

Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider the low bids for the Rail Trail extension during the meeting this evening.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said the city received four bids for the project.

Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider the bids for the Rail Trail extension during the Monday meeting.

“Monterey has put out bids to extend our Rail Trail from Poplar Street to Walnut and a little bit beyond. Not quite to Oak.,” Wiggins said. “We will go as far as the money will take us. The board will be accepting or denying bids on Monday night to get that job underway.”

Monterey will use 45,700 dollars in grant funding to complete the extension.

Wiggins said the City of Monterey does not have an exact start date for the extension construction.

“That [date] will depend on the one who is awarded the bid. They will have to work it into their schedule,” Wiggins said. “But we will be pretty persistent that we want to get it started right away.”

Wiggins said he hopes for the project to begin before the winter weather sets in Monterey.

Once completed, the trail will extend over a mile in length.
