Improper License Plate Leads to Meth, Firearm Arrest

A motorcycle with an improper license plate led to the arrest of a Cookeville man Tuesday.

Authorities arrested Doug Massa, 47, for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm, and possession of an altered registration plate.

A Putnam County Sheriff Deputy made contact with Massa in connection to a disabled motorcycle on West Jackson Street near the Cane Creek Sportsplex.

The deputy determined the motorcycle had an altered license plate. The altered plate was changed from a 2016 expiration date to a 2018 expiration date. The plate was also issued to a Harley Davidson but was displayed on a Honda.

During the course of contact, Massa stated he had a firearm as well. Officials recovered a Taurus 9 mm firearm from Massa’s jacket. A consensual search of Massa also revealed approximately 1.5 grams of meth in his possession.

Massa is being held at the Putnam County Jail on $17,000 bond.
