Smith County Responds to High Waters

Smith County Emergency Services responded to multiple flood-related calls yesterday.

Smith County Emergency Services responded to multiple flood-related reports yesterday.

EMA Director Sonny Carter said most of the flooding took place in the southern areas of Smith County.

“Over on the southern end of the county, the Hickman area of Smith County and the Lancaster area, we had brief road closings due to high water,” Carter said. “We also had reports of a house with water around it. It never got in the house.”

Carter said Smith County also responded to two trapped vehicles.

“And we also had two vehicles that were trapped in the water with people inside. One passenger in each vehicle,” Carter said. “We responded to that. Those were the only issues that we had in Smith County.”

Carter reported that both passengers are now safe and unharmed.
