Cookeville Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase

A Cookeville man faces multiple charges after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit Thursday night.

Officers have charged Robert Moodispaugh Jr., 31, with two counts of reckless endangerment, evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, and driving under the influence. He is being held at the Putnam County Jail on a $13,000 bond.

According to arrest warrants, deputies observed Moodispaugh run a stop sign at a high speeds on Quinland Lake Road. The deputy followed the vehicle onto Hilham Road, reaching speeds of 80 mph.

Moodispaugh then traveled through a ditch to turn into Edgewood Court before the vehicle finally stopped along Winding Brook Court.

Records indicate deputies found Moodispaugh’s two-year-old son and four-year-old daughter crying in the back seat of the vehicle, as well as an empty bottled of spiced rum in the front seat.

The arresting deputy reports Moodispaugh, who admitted to drinking prior to driving, had slurred speech, red watery eyes and the strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Moodispaugh refused to submit to a chemical test after being informed of the implied consent law. A search warrant was granted to obtain a sample of Moodipaugh’s blood.

Past records show Moodispaugh has a revoked license after a DUI charge in Cumberland County.
