The Putnam County School System will consider changing the Parent-Teacher Conference Dates in the future school schedules.
Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said teachers and principals have expressed their concerns about the early conference date.
“We are really having a discussion about in the future do we need to push that back a couple of weeks in the future,” Boyd said. “And that is likely to be my recommendation if we modify the calendar to reflect that.”
Boyd said historically the Parent-Teacher Conferences take place around the four-week mark.
More schools have welcome back meetings with parents at the beginning of the school year, which introduce parents to the faculty, Boyd said.
“So they have already met many of their parents at the beginning of the school year,” Boyd said. “Now, just four weeks later, they have some grades and some academic progress to report. But at this time they don’t feel like they have a strong enough pool of academic data to have a really purposeful conversation.”
Boyd said four-weeks does not give the teachers enough time to learn about their students.
The Parent-Teacher Conferences for grades kindergarten through 8th grade took place yesterday. Grades 9th through 12th will have conferences today after school.
