Putnam County fire crews are still on the scene of the E 6th Street residential fire.
Cookeville Fire Cheif Dale Blair said the crew arrived on scene at 3:00 PM yesterday.
“We could see smoke from City Hall when we rode out of there. And we had one transported to Cookeville regional for heat exhaustion,” Blair said. “But they are okay. They got released yesterday evening. We had several treated on the scene from heat and smoke inhalation.”
Blair said the crew saw heavy fire and smoke on the side and rear of the structure. Fire crews had to move to a defensive position because the roof collapsed, Blair said.
“At this time we do think it is just an accidental fire, it’s a very tragic loss,” Blair said. “But we do think it is strictly accidental.”
Most of the house has collapsed, Blair said.
Blair said the crew will stay on scene to kill hotspots and officially find the origin of the fire.
