This morning Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic celebrated the opening of their new location. Nancy Knowlton directs the Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic.
“Today is the first day, and it really has been a very fast process. J&S Construction and their employees came in and took us on as their 60th-anniversary project.” Knowlton said, “And then we have had so many businesses donate their time and resources and individuals to get this off the ground.”
The project began in July of last year and construction took place in November. All-in-all, the clinic was relocated debt-free, thanks to the local support, Knowlton said.
The Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic supports patients with various programs, including the Thrive program designed to help mothers and fathers earn childcare items for the first 18 months, Knowlton said.
The clinic provides various counseling services and a mobile ultrasound clinic as well. As the services grew, the pregnancy clinic physically needed to grow as well to provide to more people, Knowlton said.
“All these facets of the Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic continued to grow. We have been busting at the seams. We just have not had enough room,” Knowlton said. “Plus, we’ve always had a desire, I personally have always had a desire, to be here for more of the Tech students. Because I remember what it is like to be a Tech student, pregnant, scared, and had nobody. So that’s why we are passionate to be here. ”
Knowlton said the clinic wanted to give peace to its patients.
“People that come through our doors are stressed out already. They don’t know what they are going to do, they are afraid abortion may be their only choice. and they just need someone to come along beside them to help with the decision-making process,” Knowlton said. “So we want to create an environment where they come in and they automatically exhale. Just automatically have some peace when they walk through those doors, and I think we have achieved that.”
The clinic is now located at 714 North Dixie Avenue.
