The 35th annual Roller Coaster Yard Sale got underway Thursday and will continue through Sunday.
This will be 150 miles of yard sales creating a loop from Cave City, Kentucky to Celina. Clay County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Doug Young said he expects more yard sales than usual after a hot and slowed down Summer.
“People are looking to get out and so this weekend, fantastic weather, good cool weather, it’s not like some yard sales,” Young said. “That’s just hot, you get out of your car and your car gets hot and you get back in, well this time it’s just gonna be real comfortable.”
Young said there are multiple places in the Upper Cumberland to take a ride on the Roller Coaster Yard Sale. That includes Celina, Livingston and Byrdstown. Young said he asks people to be mindful of CDC guidelines and keeping social distancing.
“I think there will be fewer places along the route where a whole bunch of people gather,” Young said. “Some of those may be more spread out this time.”
Young said the yard sale draws a lot of people into Celina each year. However, Young said there a lot of stops to make if you want to ride all 150 miles of the roller coaster.
“Just get on the road between Celina and Livingston or between Livingston and Byrdstown, between Byrdstown and Albany, ” Young said. “Between Albany and Burkesville and then between Burkesville and Glasgow, and then Tompkinsville, Kentucky and back to Celina.”
Although Young said he expects more yard sales than usual, he expects some food offerings will be skipped like the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast.
