3-Year-Old Girl Passes Away After Accidental Shooting In Algood

A three-year-old girl passed away Thursday night after suffering an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in Algood.

Algood Police Chief Dale Armour said the incident happened between the Algood schools and IWC Food Service on Dry Valley Road. Armour said the child was left unattended in a vehicle and accessed a loaded handgun.

Armour said no arrests have been made at this time. Armour said as a protocol, he will meet with the District Attorney’s office in the coming days to determine how to move forward on the case.

Armour said the parents were meeting someone in the food supplier’s parking lot when the child and vehicle was left unattended. After the gunshot, Armour said the father immediately started emergency treatment on the child. Armour said the girl was airlifted to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital but passed away that afternoon.
