UCHRA Partners With TBR Providing More Jobs For TCAT Homecare Students

UCHRA will partner with the Tennessee Board of Regents to provide more jobs for those studying homecare at two separate TCAT locations.

The training will equip students to become specialized home care workers, ready to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation. UCHRA Deputy & Community Services Director LaNelle Godsey said the partnership will benefit student’s education even if they leave.

“What we’re working with doing with TBR, has stackable education credits they can continue to use through higher education,” Godsey said. “So we’re pretty excited about that.” (1:01:23)

Godsey said during their training, students would be learning from professionals to provide in-home services to disabled clients. Students would also be receiving first-hand experience in assisting clients, as well as being paid for their labor.

The announcement comes following the most recent needs assessment that was conducted throughout Upper Cumberland. After the risk assessment, the need for higher-quality jobs was ranked as number one. The need for higher-quality jobs has subsequently been listed as the first order of business in the following Community Action Plan.

“What we do with our community actions plan, we have to look at the top five needs that come out of our needs assessment we did in all of our counties,” Godsey said. (59:56)

Following graduation, students would then have the choice of finding another place of employment or continuing to work for UCHRA.
