The Highway 127 Yard Sale is going through the City of Crossville Thursday and will wind through Cumberland and Fentress Counties. Can social distancing be achieved between out of town visitors and locals?
Mayor James Mayberry said he believes it can.
“I think that there’s been enough publicity that people have been bombarded with that they will be taking precautions on their own,” Mayberry said. “Around here there’s a lot of people wearing a mask, a lot of people worried about social distancing, and the awareness of the pandemic is on everyone’s mind.”
Mayberry said during the four day yard sale, the majority of shoppers are visitors from outside the county and state. He said this event will provide a significant economic boost for the city and county.
“It’s going to kinda help out our economy right now due to the slow down and life of visitors we’ve had in our hotel and motel industry,” Mayberry said. “It’ll be a shot in the arm for them and help them in their recovery stages.”
The 127 Yard Sale runs from August 6 to 9. The 36th annual 690 mile event will also run through Jamestown and Clarkrange.
