11th Annual Overton County EMS Fireworks Show Returns

The 11th annual Overton County EMS Fireworks Show is returning to the Overton County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

EMT Roy Gore said this started as an employee event in 2010 and has grown into something for the whole community. Gore said the event is back and better than ever for the people EMS is dedicated to serve.

“We tell people this is our chance to give back to the community,” Gore said. “Because most people when they see us or associate with us it’s to the extremes of something traumatic. So this is a chance for the people in the community to come out and visit with us, get to know us, sit and talk to us and look at the equipment.”

Gore said they’re pulling out all the stops, with equipment on display from fire departments, Tennessee Highway Patrol and even a fly in from a Life Force helicopter. He said there will even be animals, including a petting zoo and a Tennessee Parks Service snake named Elvis.

“I try and get as much of a wide variety of anything I can possibly get for the kids or even for the adults,” Gore said. “Because it’s an all day event from 3:00 PM until we shoot fireworks at dark. We try and keep it as busy as we possibly can so everyone can have a good time and associate.”

Gore said that live music is not a sure thing this year, but there are plans in the works to have music. He said people are welcome to park anywhere they want at the fairgrounds except near display vehicles and the fireworks.

“Bring your lawn chair, bring a cooler of water that way you can stay hydrated,” Gore said. “We have free drinks, we have free food. The event is completely free, there is no charge for anything. That’s a lot of peoples first questions is, ‘how much is it going to cost me?’ it isn’t going to cost you a dime.”

Gore said Livingston Regional Hospital will be providing food and chips to attendees starting at 5:00 PM. Fireworks will begin at dark and gates open at 3:00 PM at the Overton County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
