Obituaries For Wednesday, April 25

Graveside services and interment for Mr. Jesse Jackson, age 87, of Cookeville, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday April 26 at the West Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community of Putnam County. Mr. Jackson passed away Tuesday evening April 23, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Funeral services for Quinton Bain, 88 of Walling, will be at 12 noon on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Christopher Donnelly and Andy Berg officiating. Burial will follow in Norris Bain Pollard Cemetery in Walling, TN. Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Bain passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born Sunday, May 5, 1929 in Walling he was the son of the late John and Mae Belle Jared Bain . He served in Germany during the Occupation and taught tank and gunnery during the Korean War. He loved to study and teach God’s word. He served as an Elder at Calvary Bible Church in Chattanooga and Grace Presbyterian in Cookeville. He retired from Newton Chevrolet in Chattanooga after 42 yearsof service. He was a loving father and husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stephanie Flatt Combs, 44, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Lynn Cemetery in Gainesboro. She passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Curahealth Hospital in Nashville. She was born June 27, 1973 in Gainesboro, to Janice Flatt Chaffin and the late Alton Flatt. On November 28, 2014 she was married to Rickey Combs. She was a secretary in the healthcare industry and an inspirational member of Poston’s Chapel Community Church. She was preceded in death by her Father: Alton Flatt and a Granddaughter: Emorie West. Survivors include Her Husband: Rickey Combs of Gainesboro; 1 Son: Tyler (Cadey) West of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Taylor West of Cookeville, Mother: Janice Flatt Chaffin of Gainesboro; 3 Grandchildren: Camden Ferguson, Carter West, and Evelynn West; 1 Brother: Chris Flatt of Gainesboro; and 1 Sister: Melissa (Tim) Scott of Gainesboro. Nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive and Camden Ferguson who called her mommy. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3 to 8 P.M. and on Thursday from 11 A.M. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to help with funeral expenses can be made by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. William “Bill” Huddleston, age 89 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Malone officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Shipley Cemetery. Bill’s family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to the time of the service. Mr. Huddleston passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 in Cedar Hills Retirement Center. Mr. Huddleston was born Sunday, January 6, 1929 in Cookeville, TN to Horace Clifton and Edith Maynard Huddleston of Cookeville. He died on Monday morning, April 23, 2018. Upon graduating from Cookeville High School, he joined the Air Force in 1949 and served until 1952, attaining rank of Staff Sergeant. He then earned his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technological University. He began his career with a brief tenure working at DuPont, though he ultimately transitioned to his true calling in education when he began working as a high school teacher in Ohio. After six years in Ohio, he returned to Cookeville where he continued his teaching career at all levels of education, eventually retiring after more than 30 years as a teacher. Upon retirement, he continued his lifelong hobbies of community service, fellowship, and small engine repair. A devout member of the church, his faith was an integral part of his life. He was a charter member of the Midway Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN, where he served as Deacon for 37 years. Mr. Huddleston is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Martha Charlene Huddleston; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Browning of Cookeville, TN; a daughter-in-law, Julia Huddleston Brown of Cookeville, TN; grandsons, Michael Browning of Cookeville, TN, Scott Huddleston of Johnson City, TN, and Tyler Huddleston of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Elaine and Thomas Huddleston of Johnson City, TN and Will Huddleston of Chicago, IL; siblings, Mary Chaffin of Melbourne, FL, Betty Jones of Cookeville, TN, Kenneth Huddleston of Cookeville, TN, and Jaunita Kane of Johnson City, TN; and sister-in-law Virginia “Tootie” Cross of Byrdstown, TN. He was predeceased by his son Dr. William Michael Huddleston of Cookeville, TN; brother, Robert Huddleston of Cookeville, TN; siblings-in-law Alma Raines, Ruby Upchurch, Howard Raines, Dorothy Hassler, Fred Raines, and J.C. Raines of Byrdstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee c/o Cedar Hills Senior Living Community, 1250 Cedar Hills Drive, Cookeville, TN 38506.

Funeral services for Mr. Bennie E. Dixon, age 72, of the Rickman community will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday April 26, 2018 from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Brother Jimmy Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in the Crawford Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. Mr. Dixon passed from this life on Monday evening, April 23, 2018 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Overton County on March 6,1946 to the late I.P. Dixon and Cora A. Copeland Dixon. Bennie worked for many years in maintenance and mechanic at Volunteer Foam Mfg. He was of Baptist faith. He loved riding motorcycles, being outdoors and loved his family and spending time with them He also love his dog Todd.

Funeral services for Mrs. Janie C. Harris, age 74 of Gainesboro, will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Lynn Cemetery located in Jackson Co. Mrs. Harris passed away from this life on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2018 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. Mrs. Harris was born in Celine, LA on March 15, 1944 to the late Noah Franklin and Gracie Lee (Phillips) Cheatwood; Janie worked in the food service as a waitress. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include: Husband: James Harris of Gainesboro; 2 Sons: Willie Watts of Kingsport, TN, Jessie Keen of Cookeville; 3 Daughters: Ammie Matthews of Rickman, Tevina Word of Lawrenceburg, TN, Joylene Harris of Sparta; 12 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters and 2 Brothers; A host of Nieces, Nephews, family and friends. She is preceeded in death by: In addition to her parents: Son: James Lee Goodknight; 1 Granddaughter: Patsy Jane Booker; 5 Sisters and 1 Brother. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, April 26, 2018 starting at 5 PM until 8 PM. Bro. Jim Phillips will officiate at the service.

Funeral services for Mary Alice Smith, 88 of Sparta, will be at 2pm Friday, April 27, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Freddy Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in Old Zion Cemetery. Mary Alice passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Life Care Center of Sparta. Born Wednesday, April 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Orville B. and Kibby Etta Lynn Sorrell Sr. Mary Alice was a longtime employee of Sorrell Brothers Construction and Dewhite Utility. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a member of the quilting club of Sparta. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother. Mary Alice is survived by daughters, Mary Karla Wilhite Fisher (Gerald) and Margaret Joette Wilhite Kinnaird (John) both of Sparta; son, Francis Daniel Wilhite (Melinda) of Sparta; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; brother, Jim Sorrell (Barbara) of Sparta; sisters, Sara Reynolds (Floyd) and Mildred Parris (Clyde) both of Sparta, several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Daniel Wilhite and Cecil Morgan Smith; daughter, Janet Sue Wilhite Sanders (Steve); brothers, Orville B. Sorrell Jr., Jack Sorrell, and Lynn Sorrell; and a sister, Zelma Sorrell. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 until the time of service at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joey Helen Conner Mansell, age 69, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m Saturday April 28 at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Barnes Cemetery in Overton County. Mrs. Mansell passed away Tuesday evening April 24, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 p.m and again Saturday from 11 a.m until service time.
