Daniel Calling For Resignations and Termination In Wake Of Report

Pickett County Executive Richard Daniel plans to request current Overton/Pickett County E-911 District board members to resign and that Director Chris Masiongale be terminated.

His request follows the release of a state comptroller’s investigation report Tuesday that found some $85,000 in questionable expenses made by the district last fiscal year.

“Any board that would allow this type of behavior to go on needs to be replaced,” Daniel said. “It’s obvious, to me, that this problem has been there for a while and no one has taken action or taken a look at it.”

In September of 2014, Daniel said he began having concerns of possible misuse of funds.

“I first began having concerns when I looked at the Overton/Pickett 911 budget,” Daniel said. “Just looking at the budget and the different expenses of that budget, it gave me even more reason to be concerned.”

Daniel plans to attend the next board meeting to formally make his request. He believes Tuesday’s report will allow his county to move forward with initial plans to separate from the joint E-911 district.

In April of 2017 Daniel presented his concerns to the Pickett County Commission and in February of 2018, The Pickett County Commission voted to petition the State E-911 board to separate from the joint district.
