Wreaths Across America Mobile Exhibit Coming To Cookeville

Wreaths Across America is bringing its Mobile Education Exhibit to Cookeville Thursday.

Manager Trish Gardner said the goal of the exhibit is to educate people about the non-profit organization and its goal of honoring veterans. She said it is important to bring the exhibit to different communities to spread the word to as many people as possible about their mission.

“What people will see when they come on board is a little bit about Wreaths Across America and our history,” Gardner said. “We try to teach them also a little bit about patriotism and the military, and we welcome home our Vietnam veterans. We do welcome home ceremonies whenever we find a veteran.”

Gardner said the exhibit features storyboards that educate people about the military, and the organization’s goals and history, as well as a 22-seat theater that shows different videos depending on where the exhibit goes.

“If we’re in a school we have school-based videos, we teach the pledge of allegiance and patriotism,” Gardner said. “Right now we are running some Wreaths Across America, and Gold Star Mothers videos.”

Gardner said she hopes everyone who comes to see the exhibit will realize the importance of remembering and honoring veterans. She said she hopes veterans themselves would attend as well if they are able to be honored.

“I would hope that if a veteran came to see us he would realize that we still honor and remember them,” Gardner said. “I would hope that a student would come aboard, that they would realize what veterans and the military is all about and why they have their freedoms are allowed to live in such a great nation like ours.”

The exhibit will be at 155 Fairgrounds Street in Cookeville on Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
