Woman Rescued From Flood Waters In Jackson County

The Jackson County and Putnam County Rescue Squads conducted a successful swift water rescue Sunday.

Jackson County Emergency Management Agency Director Keith Bean said crews responded to a campground on the Roaring River where rising waters had trapped a woman inside a camper.

“Putnam County Rescue came in with their swift water rescue team and took an inflatable raft across the Roaring River,” Bean said. “The water was way up and really rapid, so it was pretty difficult to get across. They made contact with her and she was unharmed and refused EMS transport.”

Bean said it’s not the first time rescue crews have responded to the area due to flooding.

“We’ve had some issues with the campground flooding and somehow they aren’t getting the notification that they need to get out,” Bean said. “That’s probably the third time we’ve been to the same campground in the last three to four months probably.”

Bean said the water has receded in the area.
