Winningham Hardware is expected to reopen in Downtown Livingston within the coming weeks.
That according to Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Greg McDonald. He said the reopening of the store will be special for the city.
“It means a lot to the community,” McDonald said. “Number one, the service they provided, you could go there and find anything. It’ll still be that way. From a tax standpoint, they have a lot of sales tax. So it’s really good. It’s a win-win for them as well as the city.”
McDonald said both he and store owner Kenny Winningham are excited for the store to reopen as it’s been a staple in the community for over 60 years. In 2017, a fire destroyed the store and most of its contents, fueled by combustibles such as oils, paints, chemicals, and even ammunition.
“Kenny made the decision that he will build back and he’s due to reopen really any day now,” McDonald said. “He certainly invites everyone to come in and see the new hardware store when we have the grand opening.”
Winningham said the interior of the store is still under development but plans to have it open in about a month.
