The water line replacements on Willow Avenue are coming to a close.
Cookeville Water and Sewer Director Ronnie Kelly said the city is trying to complete the project before TDOT starts repaving this August.
“The project is going well,” Kelly said. “We have two contractors there. One working on sewer. One working on water. The water contractor has one more service to be done by the end of the week.”
Kelly said the sewer portion of the project should be completed by the end of the month. The repairs and replacements of the sewer and water lines are in preparation for TDOT’s repaving project stretching from West Jackson Street to south of I-40.
While making repairs, Kelly said the contractor found more pipes close to Willow Avenue needing to be added to the project.
“There is a new hotel being built and when we were looking at tying them in,” Kelly said. “The current contractor found a section of pipe in bad shape not included in the project. We are going to propose to the council that we include that in the project.”
Kelly said the change order will not add any time to the completion of the project.
“We appreciate the public’s patience for all the work done out there,” Kelly said. “From our perspective, we think it has gone very well, and the contractors have done a good job.”
