Williams Praises Opioid Study Committee’s Plans

An Upper Cumberland lawmaker praised the efforts of a statewide committee studying opioid abuse.

Rep. Ryan Williams commended the work of the opioid task force appointed by Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell.

The task force recommends adding 25 TBI agents next year, limiting the number of drugs prescribed in emergency rooms and creating a new drug abuse commission.

The recommendations will be presented to Gov. Bill Haslam. The governor and party leaders will then prepare legislation for the upcoming session

Williams sponsored a bill last legislative session that revamped how chiropractors practiced in Tennessee. The changes included a reduction in opioid prescription. Williams is also in favor of Tennessee joining the state of Ohio’s lawsuit against major pharmaceutical companies over the opioid crisis.
