Williams Gives Support To Bill Seeking To Ban State Funding To Abortion Providers

Cookeville State Representative and House Republican Caucus Chairman Ryan Williams said Wednesday that he supports a bill that would outlaw TennCare reimbursements to the state’s abortion providers.

According to the bill’s sponsor, Jimmy Matlock, House Bill 2251 aims at protecting the sanctity of life by eliminating taxpayer funding to facilities that perform elective abortions. It would not impact the availability of other critical health care services offered to Tennessee women.

“As Republican leaders, we must continue our efforts strengthening Tennessee’s abortion laws,” Chairman Williams said. “It is an honor to support Representative Matlock in his efforts to protect our most innocent citizens.”

According to the Department of Finance and Administration, providers across the state have received almost 1-million dollars in funding from 2012 to 2017.
