Williams Encouraging Residents To Utilize Sales Tax Holiday

Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday will take place next Friday.

Established in 2006 by the General Assembly, the three day holiday allows state residents to save money on items such as clothing, school supplies, and electronics. Cookeville State Representative and Republican Caucus Chairman Ryan Williams said the holiday will give families a little more financial flexibility moving forward.

“It’s an opportunity to have a considerable savings on what it would normally cost to get your kids started back to school,” Williams said. “The state is extremely reliant on sales tax revenue and this is a way for the state to make a way for citizens not to be charged this tax. It’s a creative way to forgo that tax in some form of tax incentive.”

The holiday allows for tax-free purchases on clothing and school supplies valued at $100 or less and computers valued at $1,500 or less.

The sales tax holiday runs from July 28th – July 30th.
