Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said the Perdue team stands ready to protect the some 700 employees who work there.
Wiggins met with Perdue Human Resources Director Angie Woods and Vice President Jeff Beckman. He said they shared Perdue’s plans to keep the facility safe in the wake of the coronavirus as well as what the town is doing.
“They’re making it work,” Wiggins said. “Yes. I’m convinced. And that just that makes us feel better here, because that’s a major cluster of people and some of them live here. And it’s helpful to know that their employer, you know, is looking out for their welfare, which eventually it is a look out for the welfare of the town.”
The plant operates two shifts daily with a third-shift focused on cleanup.
“They shared with me that they were already doing some protocols up there on every employee keeping a watchful eye, according to the guidelines put out by the CDC and the NIH and public health professionals,” Wiggins said.
The town will ramp up its protections against the coronavirus Monday, closing town hall to the public. Wiggins said employees will remain at work to help citizens via email or phone.
