WCTE PBS to Celebrate will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Great TV Auction, beginning Saturday.
President and CEO Avery Hutchins said she knows there are people who have seen every Great TV Auction that WCTE has held in the past 40 years. She said this year you can win an opportunity to appear as a contestant on the show.
“People are going actually be able to bid on the items that are going to be on the online auction for a chance to come in and actually play these minute to win it style games on television to compete for some bigger prizes,” Hutchins said.
Hutchins said the new format is going to be a lot of fun. She said they just about have the games nailed down. She said contestants will not know what game they are playing until they arrive in studio. She said the same two contestants will play for the whole night to win a bigger prize.
“We’re also incorporating local music into the show,” Hutchins said. “They’ll kind of add a little musical culture to the event and just jazz it up a little bit. Everybody likes a little music.”
Hutchins said the action will support WCTE’s work in the Upper Cumberland with national and locally produced programming including educational offerings and nonprofit support.
“Our 2022 auction we raised around $40,000,” Hutchins said. “And this year we hope to reach around $50,000.”
The WCTE PBS Great TV Auction will begin June 3 with a 24/7 online auction at 10am and run through June 11th until midnight. The nightly showcase will air on WCTE PBS from June 7- 11, 7-10pm.
