White County UT Extension Hosting FCE Meet And Greet

White County’s UT Extension is hosting a meet and greet in Quebeck on Monday the 26th to inform people about its Family and Community Education Association.

Family Consumer Science Extension Agent Mallory Christian said FCE members meet once a month to discuss community projects and work on crafts, skills, and adult education. She said this particular meeting will be an informal information session to get the word out about the possibilities for people involved with FCE.

“This one is new to Quebeck,” Christian said. “So this is just kind of coming together, discussing FCE principles, what goes on at the meetings, kind of gagging interest, answering any questions people may have and stuff like that.”

Christian said the meet and greet will also include a meal and exercise activities. She said they will also go over the different membership positions and future projects the association might be interested in.

Christian said FCE members have the opportunity to grow and attend meetings across the State, and even nationally with FCE associations in other states.

“It’s really good to get your name out there and stuff like that, and meet people and interact with people all across the state and learn how they do things, and learn new skills,” Christian said. ”

Christian said the FCE association dwindled in membership during the pandemic, so now is a great time to get the word out about it and get new people to join. She said the White County UT Extensions goal is to start new FCE clubs throughout the county.

“Our end goal is to have a club in multiple parts of the county so that people up on Bon Air Mountain don’t have to drive all the way to Quebeck to go to a meeting once a month,” Christian said. “But that is the end goal here, this has been a goal since I started here at Extension to kind of reignite FCE in this county.”

The meet and greet is on Monday at 10 am, at the Quebeck Community Center.
