White County School Enrollment Steady, Growth At Doyle

White County Schools enrollment remains basically unchanged from a year ago, still down from pre-COVID numbers.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said some 3,850 students are enrolled after the first month of the school year. Dronebarger said the number is about where schools officials expected.

“We’ve seen an increase in Doyle, and we have plans to add onto that school in the coming years,” Dronebarger said. “It’s already in the five year plan. They’ve grown to the size of Northfield on the north end, so we’ve seen that change. But they have adequate space. They’re bigger than they have been in a long time, but they have adequate space. And as I said, we have plans to add more.”

Dronebarger said capacity numbers are excellent with no overcrowding issues at any of the schools. Add to that, positions are full staffed and Dronebarger said principals are happy.

“I feel like we’re getting good response from our schools, our principals, they feel like they have good numbers,” Dronebarger said.

Dronebarger said the system stands about 100 students less than the enrollment before COVID.
