White County School Board Member Jayson McDonald will run for Tennessee School Board Association President.
McDonald said, if elected, he would be honored to represent White County at the state level. He said after serving as Vice President for the past year, he will be among the candidates voted on at the Association’s November Delegate Assembly. McDonald said he is excited about the potential to lead the organization charged with providing training, legal work, policy writing, and legislative representation for school boards across Tennessee.
“If elected, I’m going to be relying on everybody in this room from administrators, to communications director, to our director,” McDonald said. “Because we’ll have to kind of take some leadership roles at convention.”
McDonald said board executives are required to serve on their local school board. The current president-elect is allowing his local board term in Tipton, Tennessee to expire in August, an unprecedented development for the TSBA, McDonald said.
He said he is the first White County board member to ever serve on the TSBA Executive Board. He said if elected, White County schools will continue to come first and his role with the school board will not be affected. White County School Board Chairman Bob Young said he appreciated McDonald’s desire to become a voice for White County beyond the local level.
“I think that’s great,” Young said. “And I can’t think of a better ambassador for White County School system than Jayson McDonald for all of the service you’ve put in, so I appreciate that and I’m just excited for you and for our county for the exposure we’ll get because of this.”
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger called the prospect of a White County School Board Member serving as TSBA President an honor for the system and the entire county. The School Board approved McDonald’s bid during its Thursday meeting.
