White County’s High School Softball Field will be renamed, “Glen ‘Buckeye’ Sims Field,” after Assistant Coach Glen Sims.
Athletic Director Terry Crain said a sign with the field name will be displayed above the score board.
“The girls that play for him, they have nothing but great things to say about him and the coaches,” Crain said. “The head coaches he has worked for through the years they have all kinds of praise for him for hard work and dedication.”
Crain said the celebration and sign reveal begins Wednesday at 5:30. Sims has been on the White County Softball coaching staff for 13 years under seven different head coaches.
“He’s family felt like everybody knows him as Buckshot, so they felt like that should be a part of the sign,” Crain said. “We are very proud of Coach Sims.”
Crain said Sims has a passion for working on the field. Crain said residents see Sims everyday doing it all from fertilizing to mowing.
“People in the community come up to me all the time and say they saw Glen at the field,” Crain said. “Glen is at the field every day. Year round he is either checking on the field, dragging the infield, mowing the grass or fertilizing. It is always something.”
Crain said a mixture of family, coaches and past and present players will all attend the celebration.
