White County hopes to begin digging for a major waterline project in the near future.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the project can begin once TDOT establishes right-of-way at the county’s industrial park.
“Actually, my last update was that all right-of-ways have been obtained. They’re out there right now surveying and marking,” Robinson said. “We’re hoping to start digging pretty soon because we’ve got to get our utilities in place for our new Hormann factory, and then of course for the airport and Fitzgerald Industrial Park. We want to make sure there’s more than enough utility volume there to meet the needs.”
White County received an Appalachian Regional Commission grant earlier this year for installing new waterlines at the site. The total project price came to about $455,000.
Robinson said the project represents a big step for the future of the industrial park and surrounding area.
“This is very important to the existing industry up there, but there’s room for more,” Robinson said. “We want to make sure we’ve got everything in place and established for those future needs.”
In the meantime, Robinson said construction of the new Hormann facility remains on track.
“Everything is going as good as can be expected. If you remember, we had a wet beginning of the year and that got the project a little behind schedule,” Robinson said. “Hopefully by the end of the year things will be ready to rock and roll up there.”
White County must provide a 20-percent match towards the waterline project.
