White County will be surveying residents by phone as part of its grant application for two fire trucks.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said traditionally they would survey in-person for this roughly $500,000 grant. Robinson said residents will remain anonymous and their income will be the most invasive question asked.
“That will help with fire protection, county wide and better fire protection helps with insurance rates,” Robinson said. “It helps with the tax burden, the local tax burden because that’s not money we have to take out of the coffers to buy this equipment.”
Robinson said resident participation will play a large role in securing this grant and the county will make calls for about two weeks. He said residents need to stay vigilant during this time to make sure they do not give personal information to scammers while the county is surveying.
“If you get a call about this, it is legit,” Robinson said. “Be careful, because there are scammers out there that will abuse and take advantage of situations. So, we want people to be very aware of that.”
Robinson said it is important for the county to have a certain percentage of residents participate. He said the data will be used to analyze areas of White County, not specific residents.
“They randomly pull numbers or pull addresses,” Robinson said. “It’s not like I can call the people that I know, they want a random selection.”
Robinson said he is having a meeting on Wednesday to nail down the exact timeline of the survey. Robinson said for residents to not give any money or personal info, and White County will not ask for anything like this during the survey.
