Jackson and Putnam Counties were named participants of Tennessee’s Marketing Assistance Program Thursday.
White County Executive Denny Robinson, who previously participated in the program, said it helps communities promote themselves to potential businesses.
“What it does is it gives you a tool – in this case, a video – to basically market your county, your area, or the whole Upper Cumberland,” Robinson said. “It’s basically a commercial. I use it when I have site visits, and we show it at different public events. It’s an excellent tool to spotlight your community.”
Robinson said the promotional videos can also be used to show companies non-business related aspects of the area to draw them in.
“We spotlighted the natural beauty of the area with the waterfalls and the caves. We did Jackson Kayak and showed some of their boats in use,” Robinson said. “We spotlighted our industrial park at the time, the airport, and downtown areas. Just anything that would be pleasing to the eye for anybody watching a commercial.”
Robinson said White County closed two sales using the promotional material, including bringing German-based manufacturer Hörmann to its industrial park.
The Marketing Assistance Program is organized by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development with production conducted by a Knoxville-based agency.
