White County High School Issues ID Badges To Help With Campus Safety

White County High School students wearing new badges to start the school year as a way to increase safety.

School System Communications Director Candice Allen said this is the first year students have worn the identification, something that has been in the works for sometime.

“So with the size of the school’s campus and an increasing student body and staff size, this move allows for us to identify every person in our building and on our campus,” Allen said. “The badges have the student’s name, their grade, a picture of them, so it helps us to identify each and every person that comes through our campus.”

Badges are to be worn at all times. The school provided lanyards so students could wear them around the neck, Allen said. It features a barcode which can be used to pay for lunch using their payment account.

Allen said an effort to start the program last year ran into printing issues. Because White County High School has multiple buildings connected by walkways, safety can be more of a challenge with people coming and going.

“This allows for us to see who is in our building each and every time that door opens,” Allen said. “And of course, the same with adults in our building. If we see an adult, we can quickly identify if they are a faculty member. And if they are not, we can address that quickly and get them to the appropriate places to sign in and get the proper identification to be on our campus.”

First block teachers issued the badges. The badges will be updated in the coming weeks with new photos.

Last year, more than 1,100 students attended White County High School.
