White County’s annual Fourth of July Freedom Celebration will proceed this year.
Pastor Steve Qualls has helped organize the celebration. He said he has been in constant contact with the mayor, sheriff, police chief, and other county officials.
“We know some people think that maybe it’s terrible that we would do this,” Qualls said. “Our response is that at some point we have to get out. At some point, we have to do our part in stimulating the economy, we have to do our part in getting back into some type of normalcy.”
Admission is free and people are welcome to bring their own masks and gloves. Qualls said the July 3rd event will feature food and craft vendors, live bands, and bounce houses.
Qualls said because the county has opened back up and the event is outside, county officials decided to let the event continue.
“It is a White County event, so we couldn’t do it unless the administration of White County wanted to,” Qualls said. “It was ultimately their call. They just felt like, and we agree with them, that we need to move on. It’s time to move on, it’s time to get back to some normalcy.”
The doors open at 4:00 p.m. at the Community Sports Complex off of Highway 70. Qualls said the fireworks show will begin after dark.
