White County Finalizes Landfill Sale Monday Night

Ten months after agreeing to accept proposals, White County Commissioners finalized the sale of the White County Landfill to Waste Management Monday night.

The landfill sold for $2 million. County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson and county attorneys have negotiated the sale price since March. Robinson said he has been working to get the landfill sold for over two years.

Commissioners also approved a lease agreement to keep the White County Animal Shelter on the landfill property for five years.

Robinson said Waste Management employees have been on site for weeks getting acclimated. Robinson said he expects a full transition to have been made in the next 30 to 60 days.

The contract states that no other party may acquire any portion of the landfill from Waste Management in the future.

The personal property passed over to the company includes two compactors, telephone and security systems, and cardinal truck scales. Waste Management will also be responsible for the $100,000 closing cost.

White County will have five days to present Waste Management with due diligence deliveries. Waste Management will then have 90 days to conduct its own due diligence. This may include inspections over title and survey, environmental conditions, soil conditions, siting, access, and traffic conditions. The company holds the right to terminate the contract at any point during that period.
