White County Fair Honors Hometown Heroes

The White County Fair underway, with this year’s theme honoring first responders and the community’s “Hometown Heroes.”

White County Fair President Mike Wilson said each night of the fair a different first responder or military organization will be recognized. Wilson said hometown heroes will be welcomed at the fair this year with the first 50 first responders that visit the fair office each night will receive a goody bag.

“We are recognizing basically that’s what it says Hometown Heroes,” Wilson said. “Whether it’s EMS, Fire Department, Police, Health Care workers, and any type of people in that field we are wanting to recognize them and just show appreciation for them and everything they do to support us in our community.”

Fair events include the cattle show, demolition derby, motorcycle racing, and tractor pulls. Wilson said this year’s fair is not on a traditional schedule with some events moved around to see if the fair can add more events in the future.

“We moved our schedule around to bring in some different events,” Wilson said. “I believe we felt like some events would work better on other nights and also open us up for future growth. That way we would have nights in the future that we will be able to add new and different events and kind of planning for the future.”

Wilson said every year it takes a lot of hard work from the fair board and volunteers.

“We spend lots of hours and time,” Wilson said. “Obviously, we are doing scheduling, maintenance, and repairs. Just we have a really good fair board and a really good group of volunteers that come together and pull this off each and every year and without them, we couldn’t do it.”

Wilson said everyone who helped out can now see the fruits of their labor with a great fair. The White County Fair runs through Saturday, September 7th.
