White County Expecting New Medical Equipment, Ambulance

White County is expecting to receive a new ambulance, automated CPR devices, a portable ventilator and power cots to boost emergency services.

These pieces of equipment were ordered before the pandemic and White County Mayor Denny Wayne Robinson said he’s expecting them anytime now. Robinson said the CPR devices allow ambulance workers to get more work done during an emergency.

“A machine giving CPR and that way the paramedic in the back can continue to do other medical procedures that hopefully save lives,” Robinson said. “It’s almost like having another person in the ambulance.”

Robinson said the portable ventilator will allow EMS workers to transport individuals to bigger facilities while keeping them in stable condition. Something the county was not able to do previously.

“Before it was not really an option, they had to almost be better before they could put them into the ambulance,” Robinson said. “We’re able to transport these people to maybe a higher grade facility to help save their life.”

The power cots will help with the lifting process of getting someone into an ambulance. Robinson said this will help address medical concerns for ambulance workers.

“We have a lot of back injuries, back strains and stuff due to that,” Robinson said. “This keeps them from having to just personally, really manhandle everybody.”

Robinson said the ambulance is being built, but is behind schedule. Robinson said he believes the oldest ambulance will be retired and the new one will replace it. Keeping the Counties number of ambulances at eight.

A $300,000 Community Development Block Grant provided the money for White County to order this equipment.
