White County Begins Search for New Football Coach

White County High School began its search for the newest head coach of the Warriors Monday.

Principal Grant Swallows says the school hopes to have a decision made within the next couple of weeks.

“We’re just looking for the right guy to come in here and try to create some momentum for our football program,” Swallows says. “We’ve unfortunately had several coaches over the past few years and we just have not been where we want to be. We want to create an atmosphere where our kids have a chance on and off the field. We’re looking for the right guy to come in here and do that for us.”

Swallows thanked former head coach Jerry Lowery for his time at the helm of the program. Lowery will continue to teach at the high school.

“He’s a valuable member of our staff, he’s just going to step back from the coaching aspect of it,” Swallows says. “We appreciate him and everything he’s done. He’ll continue to make a difference in kids’ lives because that’s what he’s done for almost 32 years, so we appreciate the fact he’s going to continue to do that.”

Swallows hopes to have a new coach hired soon to help in scheduling games for the next two seasons.

The school will close its coaching search Nov. 19 but will extend the deadline in case a hire has not been made at that time.
