The White County Solid Waste Committee has approved a contract to lease space from local manufacturer Jackson Kayak.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said they are renting the space to use as a temporary hub for the solid waste department. Robinson said the county will be paying $3,000 per month for the facilities.
“It will be for one office, four bays, and outside storage space for trucks and containers,” Robinson said. “The term will be for one year.”
The contract will go to the White County Commission for final approval on Monday, September 16. Robinson said they are working on an all-new building to host the solid waste department but it will take about a year to complete.
“Since we’ve sold the landfill the county’s still operating the convenience centers but not the landfill,” Robinson said. “So we’ve got to move out from the landfill.”
Robinson said they will be able to use the rented space to perform vehicle maintenance such as oil changes. Robinson said they will also be paying one hundred dollars per month to cover utilities.
“We do have in the lease that should the cost of utilities consistently exceed one hundred dollars per month, the lessor reserves the right to impose additional utility fees to cover the overage,” Robinson said.
Robinson said the rest of the contract is fairly standard in regard to logistical items including insurance, termination, and indemnification.
In other business, the White County Budget Committee approved a budget amendment allowing the highway department to purchase two mowing tractors and related equipment for a total of $175,000.
